The Sub 70 859 driver is one of Sub 70's most advanced drivers to date and is designed to provide the optimal balance of distance, forgiveness and control . It is aimed at players looking for a premium club with the latest technology, but at a more affordable price.

Construction and technical characteristics

  • Axis of Rotation Technology (ART): This is the key patented technology in the 859 driver. Instead of the traditional design with different "bulge and roll" curves on the face, the 859 uses a single, uniform curve from low heel to high toe. This design is intended to reduce spin and sidespin on hits outside the sweet spot, leading to more consistent and straight shots, even on misses.

  • Carbon Fiber Crown: The driver features a carbon fiber crown located in strategic locations, depending on the model. This carbon fiber design allows weight to be redistributed low and deep in the clubhead. This lowers the center of gravity (CG) and increases the moment of inertia (MOI), contributing to higher ball speed, easier launch and more forgiveness.

  • Adjustable Weighting and Adapter: The 859 driver features adjustable weights on the sole, typically in the heel and toe. This allows the player to fine-tune the club to promote a draw or fade ball flight, as well as alter spin and launch characteristics. The driver also features an adjustable adapter that allows you to change loft and lie.

  • Two models for different players:

    • 859 Standard: This model has a volume of 460cc and is designed for maximum forgiveness and consistent ball speed across the face. It has a slightly closed face when set up in the neutral position, which helps players counteract slices and hit straighter shots.

    • 859 Pro: A slightly smaller (450cc) and more player-oriented model. It has a more neutral or slightly open face at setup and is designed for players with higher swing speeds who want lower spin and more control over the ball trajectory.

Performance and target audience

The 859 driver is known for its high performance and value. It is particularly appreciated for its precision and consistency . Several independent tests have shown that the 859 performs very well, especially when it comes to keeping the ball in play, even on off-center hits.

  • Who is it for? It is suitable for players of all levels who are looking for a driver with advanced technology, adjustability and excellent performance at a price that is significantly lower than the major manufacturers. The Standard model suits golfers who need more forgiveness and help counteract slice, while the Pro model is an excellent choice for players with faster swings who want lower spin and more control.
